Long and Happy Lives Through Quality Cat Food and Feeding Habits

After about a year, your kitten is now a cat and since he's a grown up now he needs to switch his food from kitten food to cat food. The extra amounts of protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals in kitten food is no longer needed for adult cats because they are pass the growing and developmental stages now and are no longer as active as they were as a kitten. Obesity is a common problem for many cats, unlike dogs, cats don't go on daily scheduled walks like dogs. Cats then to wander on their own so their amount of exercising is really up to them so often cats may exercise a lot less then their food intact. Although we don't want our cats to be underweight, being overweight is a more common issue for cats.

As you can see, it is important to switch your cat over to cat food at the appropriate time to prevent future heath and weight problems. With this in mind, do not switch your kitten to cat food too soon either, this can prevent your kitten from receiving all his necessary nutrients for proper growth and development. Usually, an easy transition for cats to switch over from kitten food to cat food is to buy the same brand he has been already eating. This way he is already familiar with the taste and his body is already accustomed to the ingredients in that brand so it won't be a shock for his system.

Cats require the same ingredients in their food as kittens, they just need less amounts of protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals. Keep in mind that cats are carnivors so they need larger amounts of meat in their food to keep their bodies running properly.

Cat owners often wonder what is better for their cats, canned food or dry food. Although, dry food is more convenient and also less easy to spoil, cats actually get a better diet from eating canned food because canned food provides more of the nutrients that cats require. Dry cat food often contains carbohydrate fillers such as corn meal which is not very beneficial to cats. Even though canned food is messier and easier to spoil, it is better for your cat to have canned food, it is up to you what fits better with your lifestyle, as well as your cat's lifestyle.
