Kitten Food that will Provide the Proper Growth and Development
When you first bring your kitten home let them explore your home and feel
comfortable in the new environment. Felines in general are more independent
animals and if you give them some freedom to explore they will surely
appreciate it. Keep in mind, you may want to kitten proof your home a bit before
the arrival of your new pet, because kittens and cats are more independent and
more prone to exploring around you never know what they might find or where
they might squeeze themselves into.
When you bring home a new kitten there are many things to consider and also
a couple of trips to the vet to make sure your kitten is healthy and doesn't have
any serious health problems or defects that you weren't aware of. An important
aspect of keeping your kitten healthy is to feed him or her the right kind of
food that is best suited to his or her breed. Kittens and cats are carnivors and
require a lot of meat in their diet so that is definately something important to
look for in their food that you buy for them. Depending on where you got your kitten
from, there are different feeding methods to follow. If you got your kitten from
a breeder then they will tell you what they have been feeding them with, usually
you can continue feeding them with the same brand as long as you're happy with their
choice of food. If you got your kitten from anywhere else chances are your kitten
wasn't being fed a high quality food so there will be some adjustments required to
their diet.
To prevent kittens from getting sick or upset when you switch their food, it
doesn't matter if you're switching because you prefer a different brand, or if you're
switching because you want to upgrade the quality of the food your kitten is eating,
you need to switch the food gradually. How you do this is to slowly mix in small quantities
of the new food into the old food. Give it a couple of days before you increase the
amount of the new food. As you increase the amount of the new food, decrease the
amount of the old food. Eventually you will be able to switch over to the new food
completely. How long this procress takes really depends on your kitten. While you
are switching the foods, monitor how he or she reacts to it, does it take him longer
to eat it? Has her feces changed in any way, such as colour, amount, or firmness? This
are important things to monitor it tell if she is taking to the new food or not.
When choosing a brand of food for your kitten, try to do the research beforehand and
really decide what is good for your kitten before you buy it and try it. The reason is
that changing the brand of food too often isn't good for the kitten. She may not
become accustomed to it and/or start to lack nutrients because her body is always
trying to adjust to the new kind of food. Therefore doing the research beforehand will
really pay off for your kitten and you because switching brands can become expensive if
your kitten doesn't like the food, you can end up with a lot of extra food left over
that your kitten won't eat.

Just think of your kitten as a person, you know you always want what tastes better
when you're eating your food, well same goes with your kitten. Your kitten will be able
to easily pick out premium food compared to lesser value food. So when you go out to
get your food for your kitten just make sure that there are high levels of protein, fat,
vitamins, and minerals, those are the vital ingredients in kitten food to provide
them with the proper growth in the important developmental stages. Premium kitten food
will usually contain high levels of these ingredients compared to lesser valued food, just
make sure that there aren't any by-products which could really affect your kitten's
health negatively.
